The
Periklean
Parthenon

The Parthenon is a symbol of western civilisation and Athenian democracy and is seen as the greatest achievement of the Doric Order.

The Parthenon was dedicated to the goddess Athena and begun in 447 BC, when the Athenian Empire was the dominant force in the Aegean. The Periklean Parthenon was designed by architects Iktinos and Kallikrates, while the sculptor Pheidias supervised the entire building program and conceived the temple’s sculptural decoration and chryselephantine statue of Athena.

The Parthenon, is the most magnificent creation of Athenian democracy at the height of its power.

Lycabettus
Hill

The view from Lycabettus is breathtaking. The top of Lycabettus Hill is the highest point of central Athens. From there, you can have the best view of the city, including the Acropolis and see as far as Piraeus and the Saronic gulf.

Odeon of
Herodes

In ancient times, Odeon of Herodes Atticus was an ancient stone theatre that hosted musical contests.

Today, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus remains one of the festival’s main venues where Greek tragedies, ballet and other performances take place.

Drink a
Greek Coffee
at Plaka

Drink a cup of coffee is one of the must-do things to the oldest neighbourhood in Athens. Plaka is without a doubt one of the most picturesque neighbourhoods in Athens, with its narrow streets, lovely neoclassical buildings, small cafes, traditional tavernas, souvenir shops and ancient ruins in almost every corner.

There are several good restaurants and ouzeries where you can sit outside almost all year round. The legendary Cine Paris, which has been going since the ’20s, is best known for its striking Acropolis views.

Cine Paris is one of around 90 outdoor film venues in Athens where patrons can watch the latest releases. Lets not forget Anafiotika, the neighborhood closest to the stone slope of the Acropolis where you can feel like you are on an island through its Cycladic architecture.
